Boring Blockbusters
by compound complex ingreetings, movie buffs:.
i grew up with scary movies of the 1950s -- "the beast from 20,000 fathoms," "forbidden planet," "the thing" (howard hawkes).
in "the thing," the audience gasped when the men surrounding the ice-encased object proved to be circular: a flying saucer!

Good morning, and thanks for great posts!
GL: Yes, Hitchcock, The Master!
Spectre: Cool about Bryan Cranston -- what an honor. Will look into BB!
smiddy: Thanks for mention of "The Day the Earth Stood Still." I'm glad I have the tape. Gotta love Gort!
clarity: I can understand why those films make you nervous; we're all wired differently. I recently saw "Marty" and loved it!
FHN: You're right about being in your face. Respect my imagination, please!
dmouse: I agree on the money part. In the 50s you got a double feature, newsreel, cartoons and a candy bar for a nickel! I missed "Gravity" at the theatre because of the high ticket price -- DARN!
bobcat: Will add "Oblivion" to my "must-see" list. You take care, also.
BEST!

I still have the 45 rpm, All I Have to Do Is Dream. We bought it when it came out, circa 1950. Claudette on the reverse side.

Yes, Lisa Rose -- how many ways?
Story and character development are key. SFX can enhance the production, but never replace the aforementioned.
THANKS! BTW, you deserve those chick flicks!

Greetings, Movie Buffs:
I grew up with scary movies of the 1950s -- "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms," "Forbidden Planet," "The Thing" (Howard Hawkes). In "The Thing," the audience gasped when the men surrounding the ice-encased object proved to be circular: a flying saucer! Expectant movie goers screamed when the Thing bolted from behind the opening door.
I recently viewed "Man of Steel" and "Pacific Rim." Elements of the two tales I enjoyed; however, the super special effects, particularly employed in fight scenes, just kept going and going and . . .
Less is more.
I'm glad I have the oldies but goodies on video tape.
Your thoughts?

Thanks again, Simon, and difference between IE and Google Chrome

Hi Violia:
Since it worked once for you, this may not be the answer you seek: after inserting the youtube address on the JWN reply page, did you then click onto the chain icon to make the address clickable? As I stated in the OP, what worked on one browser, did not on another.
At this point, I continue to use IE, Chrome and Safari successfully on the forum and elsewhere.

My brother died yesterday
by satinka in"albert" was 55 years old, and the fifth-born of seven children.
i am the second oldest and babysat him often while he was growing up --- and while i was still at home.. yesterday, albert was out taking his usual morning stroll around his small town, when he collapsed on the sidewalk.
the doctors said it was a heart attack.

I'm curious, when you were asked to do a demo for a Service Meeting part, how did the request make you feel?
by Stand for Pure Worship indid you decline out of fear?
decline because you hated doing demos?
accept the request graciously?

Greetings, Stand:
What comes first to mind is Brother Last-Minute. He invariably called an hour before the meeting to ask me and mine to do a demo. We did so initially, thinking he was in a bind; however, it became a habit with him and we asked that, in future, please give us sufficient notice.
When I had SM parts, I called my people early -- two hours before the meeting . . .
Welcome to JWN!
